Student Portfolio Checklist

Goal of the Portfolio: to create a working portfolio for students to record their process of learning a solo piece and their final performance of it.

Artifacts

Students may use any form of media to meet the following checklist
  1. An About me page: Tell us a little about yourself and why you are doing this project.
  2. Select your piece: Students will select their piece out of a set list of pieces. They will locate and identify musical notations, composer, and time period. (Use Label: Music Selection).
  3. Listen to recordings of your selected piece: Students will selected three recordings of their piece from youtube to share on their portfolio and reflect on what the soloist did well and what needs improvement. (Use Label: Professional Recording).
  4. Weekly Reflection: Students will be asked to share and reflect on a weekly basis, what they have done that week in order to prepare and what work still needs to be done. Students will be asked to be specific about what is areas are troubling them and encouraged to ask the teacher for help if they need it. (Use Label: Reflection).
  5. First Recording: Students will record themselves playing their piece. They may record themselves as many times as they like and select the recording that they like the best. (Use Label: First Performance).
  6. Reflection: Students will reflect on their performances on how they may improve their technique, presentation, and musicality (Use Label: Performance Reflection).
  7. Final Performance: Students will share their final recording (Use Label: Final Performance).
  8. Reflection: Students will reflect on their final performance and the experience of learning a solo piece (Use Label: Final Reflection).

*Please label each post for this project with the name of the piece you selected so that we can easily separate posts by piece.


Student Selected Artifacts:

Students will be asked to include one of the three following artifacts of their choice (Use Label: Artifact):

  • Their Solo & Ensemble Judge’s Form and Certificate.
  • An improved final performance.
  • A reflection on performing at the State Solo & Ensemble Festival.
